It’s almost a brand new yeeeeaaaaar! I hope everyone is having an amazing holiday season! (What’s left of it!) As 2016 approaches I know many of us are inclined to create New Years resolutions to start the new year off with a bang! Well… I stopped making those things years ago! HA! But for some reason, this time, I just felt really compelled to set a few goals that I could attain. I really wanted to set some goals to keep myself accountable for what I had been failing to do this past year. Soooo let’s start off with hair!

Okay so I’ll be honest. This blog post stems from me not feeling like washing my hair. EEK! I KNOW! In the middle of contemplating whether I could go an extra day or not (I couldn’t) I started to think about my current hair woes and hair regimen. I have plenty of woes and barely any regimen! We need to reverse that. Thinking about the current state of my hair I thought I’d take the liberty of putting together a list of the products I use. I also want to note on things I can improve to help keep my strands in as best shape as I can!

Just a little background on my tresses:

4b – if that sort of thing matters to you

I think I have high porosity strands. I’m about 80% sure!

I’ve been completely natural since around 2007

I shaved the back and the sides of my hair in 2012 on my birthday (10/09) and kept the style about a year and a half before I decided I wanted my hair back.

Here’s some of the products I currently use

  • ORS Aloe Shampoo

I have other products that I really like as well that I’m not currently using (only because I either just ran out or I just haven’t felt like buying! LOL)

These products include:

  • Roux porosity control conditioner
  • Redken Extreme anti-snap leave-in treatment
  • Nexxus Humectress Ultimate Moisturizing Conditioner
  • L’Oreal total repair 5 Damage Erasing Balm
  • Shea Butter
  • Grapeseed oil
  • Jamaican Black Castor Oil

These are my biggest hair concerns & how I plan on dealing with them

I’m starting to experience more breakage in that area

  • Moisturize the crown as often as possible!
  • Little manipulation

I have the worst SSKs (Single Strand Knots) on the planet

  • Moisturize the ends as often as possible!
  • No pulling! SNIP, SNIP if necessary!

Length retention!

I’m having problems retaining length, most likely due to more horrible split ends and breakage

  • Keep breakage to an absolute minimum

  • Get a good one!

Shampoo, Condition, and Deep condtion at least once a week

Cowash frequently to avoid dryess and tangles

*I’ve been flat twisting my hair and the style it creates is working for me so I’ll stick to that; I may consider some wash and go’s when this unusual winter chill in Los Angeles goes back East where it belongs! But honestly I’m loving it!

Bentonite Clay hair mask w/ ACV Once or Twice a month

Limit combing

Extra moisturizing via LOC Method

Hopefully *fingers crossed* I manage to keep up a solid routine to get my coils in the best possible shape that they can be in so here’s to CONSISTENCY! Wish you all a head full of healthy hair and a prosperous new year!
